Toyota Tundra Joining the List of America's Most Popular US Made Vehicles

An automotive sales index online has identified the Toyota Tundra as one of the best-selling vehicles built in America and its partly attributed to the new Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas Inc. plant in San Antonio.

And for the first time, the Tundra which was built at the facilities in Princeton, Ind., and San Antonio with parts made like the Toyota control arm bushing kits primarily in American factories has finally made it into Cars.coms American Made Index.

Every year the American Made Index identifies the top 10 models of vehicles that are in essence American and that pertains to where parts are produced and also with regards to the vehicles popularity among cars.com buyers.

So far the top produced American vehicle according to the index is the Ford F-150 which is primarily assembled in Claycomo, Mo., and Dearborn, Mich. The Toyota Camry on the other hand which is assembled in Georgetown, Ky., and Lafayette, Ind., ranked second only.

The Fort Wayne Ind., and Pontiac, Mich.-built Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ranked third while the Lordstown, Ohio-built Chevrolet Cobalt ranked fourth and the Wayne, Mich.-built Ford Focus ranked fifth.

Toyotas Tundra came in at 10th place on the list. The Chicago-based cars.com works with more than 200 newspapers, television stations and their Web sites to buy and sell new and used vehicles.

Never Remove The Radiator Cap On A Hot Engine - It Could Send You To The Hospital

Many years ago engine water pumps ran full time, pumping the water through the engine block but not through the radiator. Thermostats in the top of the radiator contained a spring-loaded valve, the spring being made of two dissimilar metals (bi-metallic, just like the ones in your home) and when the temperature got to 180o, the metals would expand, open up the valve, and permit the water pump to start pumping the water though the radiator where the onrushing air due to the vehicles motion would cool the water and keep its temperate at 180o. That means the coolant water in the radiator was not boiling, and it was safe to take off the cap. The radiator, if vented to the atmosphere, was prevented from building up any internal pressure because no boiling took place.

Imagine this experiment
Take a glass of boiling water and set it on the sink top when the house is at 70o temperature. Time how long it takes to cool down.

Now put the same glass of boiling water in the freezer and it will cool down much faster. Why?

Because the temperature difference was greater.

The rate of cooling is directly proportional to the difference in the two temperatures
Noting this phenomenon in Nature, auto makers concluded that a much hotter radiator would get rid of heat faster and therefore could be made smaller and cost less to make. A smaller radiator would also reduce the cars front end profile, making it more streamlined and esthetically pleasing.

To do so, it had to seal the radiatorwith a better cap..and make a better radiator to hold a little pressure.

Modern engines and radiators
Currently car radiators operate at about 210o to 220o, right about boiling water temperature. But remember that if one boils water in a container where the pressure is greater than atmospheric, the boiling point will be higher than the familiar 212o.

Therefore by making the radiator able to withstand higher pressures, the coolant can go up to 220o and transfer heat faster and be smaller than Grampas 1945 Buick with its180o thermostat. An added bonus is that the hot water radiators, in the cabin of the car, used to heat the passengers, can also be smaller and cost less because they will be processing hotter water than Grampas 1945 Buick.

The radiator in a modern engine must be tightly sealed
If the cap on a hot modern radiator is removed, then all the water in the radiator, which is, for example, at 220o, above the 212o boiling point at sea level, would immediately turn to steam. But when water turns to steam it expands about 1,700 times, which means it will likely remove the hood of the car in one terrific explosion and scald the skin off the face or hands of the person who just unscrewed the cap.

If a hot water boiler in a basement of a house has a failed thermostat, and the water goes over 212o before the tank ruptures, the resulting expansion of 30 or 40 gallons of water into steam equal to 1,700 times the volume of the water will turn the house into a pile of twigs. And it has happened more than once.

So, never, ever, remove the cap on a hot radiator in a modern car. And always keep the makeup reservoir, usually mounted under the hood against one of the fenders, at least half full.

Though adults are not affected as frequently as children, it is important for adults to be aware of how adult ear infection can affect them. Adult ear infection is caused by infection in the Eustachian tube, near the inner ear. The Eustachian tube connects the inner ear to the nasal passages in order to drain fluid from the ears and equalize pressure between outside and inside of the body, but when fluid or mucous builds up in the Eustachian tube, it is an easy target for infection.

There are many situations in which adult ear infection can surface. A cold can cause fluid build up and infection in the Eustachian tube. Post nasal drip may also contribute. An adult does not necessarily need to be sick to get adult ear infection. Often, the infection is caused by mucous being blown into the Eustachian tubes by blowing the nose or failing to clean the liquid out of the ear with a cotton swab after showering.

In one of every four cases in children, ear infection is not caused by a bacterial infection but by a viral infection. Viruses often cause adult ear infection as well. Viral infections are much more difficult to eliminate.

Adult Ear Infection Complications

However adult ear infections are contracted there are complications to be aware of. If these complications are caught early, the infection can be more easily dealt with. Complications associated with adult ear infection include fluid in the ear, pressure, and pain.

Part of the reason for the pressure and pain is that the tissue in the inner ear swells due to infection or trapped fluid. Often, the adenoids also swell due to infection. The swelling pushes into the ear.

Other complications include temporary hearing loss. The sound is obstructed due to the swelling, but no damage is actually done to the inner ear when the infection is treated. Even after the pressure is relieved and the infection has subsided, fluid may build up permanently in parts of the ear.

Adult Ear Infection Treatments

Whether bacterial or viral, adult ear infection may be treated and any buildup removed. With bacterial infections, antibiotics are necessary. Fortunately, bacterial infections can be very simple to treat.

Viral infections are more complicated to treat and may necessitate a myringotomy, which is a minor surgery in which a small plastic tube is inserted into the eardrum. This acts as a vent to relieve the pressure of the buildup or infection. It also drains the fluid remaining in the ear. This little tube is not permanent; it falls out automatically after a short time.

If the adenoids have caused the build up and the infections in the ear, they may need to be removed. They are just like tonsils in that they arent necessary and can easily be removed without complications.

Adult Ear Infection Prevention

Prevention of adult ear infection is simple. Nasal spray flushes out bacteria and pollutants which could cause build up and infection. Even allergens can be washed out. The important element necessary in effective nasal spray is xylitol, which naturally repels bacteria before it has a chance to settle into the nasal tissue.

Chewing gum containing xylitol may also loosen and relieve pressure in the ear while at the same time releasing xylitol into the mouth and throat and preventing bacteria to move up to the nasal passages and into the ear. Studies have proven the use of xylitol-rich gum reduces the risk of ear infection.

Every month or so you should use a bug and tar removal product on the body of your car. There are many of these types of products available at most car care stores. A great product to go for is one which removes bugs, tar and other spots, while polishing the cars surface at the same time.

Polishing and waxing your car regularly maintains the shiny look and also protects the paint from being damaged by the sun.

Always clean the wheels and shine the tires. If your car has alloy wheels, dirt shows up more easily and makes them look dull. You can buy wheel cleaning products which remove the build up of brake dust, but if you clean them each time you wash your car, you should only need to use water and a cloth. When shining the tires, I always use a spray-on tire shine which is quick and easy to use. This not only keeps them looking like new, but protects them from the sun and makes the whole car look magnificent.

For other external areas, use a surface protecting product which is designed to protect rubber, vinyl and plastic from the suns UV rays. This can be used on bumpers, rubber seals around doors and windows, and for the interior as well.

Interior

Purchase some car seat covers to protect your seats from getting worn out. They can easily be taken off and washed once in a while. I vacuum the seats and carpet every time I clean my car. Dirt and grit which falls deep into the carpet causes it to wear out quickly, so regular vacuuming is the best way to prevent this. Buying a set of floor mats will keep the majority of dirt from getting into your carpet.

Clean the inside of your cars windows with a glass cleaning product and a soft cloth. I use a normal household glass cleaning spray for this and it seems to do the job. When cleaning the dashboard and other interior surfaces, be careful you dont use a product that will damage them. Some vinyl and plastic surfaces can be ruined simply by using the wrong product when cleaning. Once cleaned, you can use a surface protecting spray on these areas also.

When you arent using your car, park it in the garage. This not only keeps it out of the weather, but also prevents it from getting dirty. If you dont have access to a garage, consider buying a car cover. Protecting your car from the weather as much as possible will ensure it remains immaculate.
